RECENT

His Majesty The King granted Dhar to appoint the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Privy Council.

Lyonpo Dr. Tandin Dorji was conferred the orange scarf and appointed as the Chairperson of the Privy Council. Lyonpo Dr Tandin Dorji graduated from Armed Forces Medical College Pune, in December 1976, and was commissioned into the Royal Bhutan Army, where he served for 30 years. He was conferred red scarf by His Majesty The King in 2009.

Dasho Kesang Wangdi was conferred the deputy minister scarf and appointed as the Deputy Chairperson of the Privy Council. Dasho Kesang Wangdi has served in the government as Cabinet Secretary and Ambassador of Bhutan.

As per Article 2 Section 14 of the Constitution of Bhutan 2008, there shall be a Privy Council which shall consist of four members; two appointed by The Druk Gyalpo, one nominated by Lhengye Zhungtsho and one nominated by the National Council. The Privy Council is mainly responsible for all matters pertaining to the privileges of the Druk Gyalpo and the Royal Family.

Established May 2008

The Privy Council is responsible for: all matters pertaining to the privileges and conduct of the King and the royal family; rendering advice to the King on matters concerning the Throne and the royal family; all matters pertaining to crown properties; and any other matter as may be commanded by the King.
