Privy Council Composition
The Constitution of Bhutan, enacted in 2008, establishes a four-member advisory body known as the Privy Council. Its composition reflects a balance of royal and governmental input: two councilors are directly chosen by the Druk Gyalpo (the King), while the Lhengye Zhungtsho (Cabinet) and the National Council each nominate one member. This select group’s primary function is to address and manage matters concerning the entitlements and prerogatives of the Bhutanese monarch and the royal household. Essentially, the Privy Council serves as a dedicated entity overseeing affairs related to the Crown’s special status and interests within the nation’s constitutional framework.
